The annual CSP Mountain Division Ski Improvement Clinic is a combination of top-notch professional instruction and guided exploration of the mountain for skiers or snowboarders, in skill-level-specific groups of participants, along with fantastic social opportunities and a chance to relax with patrollers, their friends and their families. That and its highly competitive pricing have made it a favourite among CSP members, their friends and family from across Canada.

The 2016 version of this legendary event will be held January 31 to February 5, 2016, at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, B.C. The Kicking Horse resort features more than 2,800 acres of terrain over more than 4,100 vertical feet, all covered with the Selkirk Mountains’ famous champagne powder, very dependable at that time of year. (By mid-November the hill had already received 151 cm in just the preceding seven days, and had snow-to-date of 270 cm.)

Information on the clinic can be found on the CSP Mountain Division website, or its Facebook page.

December’s arrival is a natural time to be thinking about how to maintain or sharpen our skiing or boarding techniques and, if you are a ski holiday fan, where to book your trip. Here’s a great, complementary solution for both challenges that’s fun and affordable.

Interest is high in the 2016 event, with so far, dozens of CSP members and friends attending from British Columbia, Alberta, the Yukon, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. (We’re keeping our fingers crossed for Yukon and Newfoundland contingents. Manitoba and P.E.I., too.) While registration has been strong, ample space remains. Don’t leave it too late, though!

The program features attendee discounts, up to five hours of group instruction and guided mountain exploration per day Monday through Thursday, dedicated space and specials in the pub, a wrap-up banquet, a pub outing, daily er, hydration sessions and chance to make lots of great new friends. The condo style ski-in, ski –out accommodation features kitchens and sits 40 feet from Kicking Horse’s main gondola. Instruction is provided by Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance- and Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors-certified pros, including Level IIIs and IVs.

Mountain Division has been offering its somewhat informal yet effective ski improvement clinic for CSP members, their friends and their families for more than 20 years. What started as a division-specific initiative has grown to effectively become a national offering. The 2016 version promises to be the best ever.

Everything is reasonably priced, with pricing for accommodation unchanged from 2015 while the cost of five days of lifts, four days of lessons and our celebratory banquet remains super, super competitive – under $550. If all of this is not enough, extra days of accommodations, and additional day lift tickets are available – at special CSP pricing.

Although largely aimed at patrollers, friends and family are extremely welcome and strongly encouraged to attend. This is about having fun and learning, with friends. There is a wide variety of lesson groups in each of skiing and snowboarding, ranging from beginner to expert.
